Road Salt

Road salt, commonly known as rock salt, is a coarse form of sodium chloride (NaCl) used to melt ice and snow on roads, sidewalks, and driveways during winter. It lowers the freezing point of water, preventing ice from forming and making surfaces safer for vehicles and pedestrians. Typically gray or white in color, road salt is often spread by trucks before or after snowfall to reduce slipping hazards. While it’s effective and affordable, excessive use can lead to corrosion of vehicles, damage to pavement, and environmental concerns like soil and water pollution.
